Nitinol wave springs are the ultimate short-stroke actuator—with the added benefit of damping vibrations. The stroke length of wave springs can be up to 5mm producing up to 50 meganewtons (>11 million pounds) of force. Since nitinol wave springs are 1,000x more compact than electric solenoids, there is a tremendous amount of flexibility in where they can be placed. A wave spring washer made of nitinol will exceed all of your expectations. Firstly, these wave springs will handle greater loads than steel before deformation. This allows them to be under more strenuous conditions with a smaller footprint. In addition to this, our tests have shown that nitinol wave springs have higher vibration dampening than steel with a higher cycle lifetime. All of this makes this piece last longer than the competitors. Did we mention that nitinol doesn’t corrode in water?
Is small yet powerful actuation something your project needs? If so this is an excellent solution. A nitinol wave spring will passively reduce vibrations with the added bonus of being able to actuate. This has a wide variety of applications ranging from multi-use actuators to a single powerful actuation. Start your brainstorming by seeing viewing our applications page.
